OCALA, Fla. – Bowling Green finished the National Invitational Championship 30 th of 52 total teams, reaching 108.5 points. The Kentucky Wildcats won the NIC, as the Falcons faced strong competition from power four conferences.
"I'm very proud of how our Falcons competed at this week's National Championship Invitational," said Head Coach Tanner Barton. "Qualifying for this meet is an accomplishment in itself, and our team made the most of this opportunity. After no individual finalists last year, we had three athletes reach the finals this year."
Morgan Sokol competed in the both the 1000 (10:47.41) and 1650 freestyle (17:44.41), while Samia Becdach's 57.96 100 Individual medley placed 42 nd.
Emily McNicol swam to a 2:03.29 finish in the 200 backstroke, while Bridget Kurtzweil finished at 2:11.64.
Freshman Astrid Garcia swam to a 2:03.70 finish in the 200 butterfly, good for 26 th overall. Grace Bodrock finished in 2:06.78 and Alex Johnson in 2:07.25.
In the final event of the NIC, BGSU finished 29 th in the 400 freestyle relay. The quartet of Becdach, Annie Berrow, Sierra Newton and McNicol touched in 3:27.06.
"Our top 30 finish was largely due to the strength of our relays. All five relays scored points and made a meaningful impact in the overall standings."
Saturday night's action concludes an impressive 2025-26 season for Bowling Green, as the Falcons finished with a 13-3 (3-1 MAC) dual record and notched three NIC finalists in Barton's second year as head coach.
