TUCSON, Ariz. - A sacrifice fly by Lyndsey Angus in the top of the seventh drove in the winning run for the University of Kentucky, as the Wildcats recorded a 3-2 victory over the Bowling Green State University softball team. The Saturday (Feb. 17) game, part of the Pepsi Arizona Classic, was held at Hillenbrand Stadium.
With the win, Kentucky improved to 3-3 on the year, while BGSU dropped to 1-3.
The Falcons opened the scoring with an unearned run in the second. Senior Nikki Rouhana walked, moved to third on an error and scored on sophomore Libby Voshell's two-out double.
UK answered in the top of the fourth when Angie Dal Pozzo tripled, then beat the throw to the plate on Rachel Friberg's grounder to short.
The Brown and Orange regained the lead with an RBI single by Voshell in the bottom of the fourth. Senior Lynsey Ebel and sophomore Jess Jenkins had back-to-back singles with two outs. Voshell's hit scored pinch-runner Marla Murphy from second base.
Kentucky tied it at 2-2 in the sixth when Friberg doubled, moved to third on a wild pitch and scored on Andrea Eilertson's single.
Sophomore McKenna Houle suffered the loss to fall to 0-2 on the year. Houle gave up eight hits in her complete-game effort, walking just one batter and striking out three.
Offensively, Voshell and Ebel each had two of BGSU's five hits.
The Falcons will conclude tournament action with a Sunday (Feb. 18) contest against New Mexico State University.
