TOLEDO, Ohio - The Bowling Green State University men's tennis team fell from the ranks of the unbeaten, losing a narrow 4-3 decision to visiting Ferris State University Friday night (Feb. 23). The non-league dual match was held at Shadow Valley in Toledo.
The Bulldogs won the doubles point, capturing each of the bottom two flights by identical 8-6 scores. BGSU's lone winning tandem was the duo of junior Vitek Wild and sophomore Geoff Hiscox. That team beat FSU's Martin Krbec and Jan Talian by an 8-3 final.
"That was a very good win at number-one doubles," said BGSU head coach Jay Harris. "That team was the small-college national champs last year."
In singles, both the Falcons and Bulldogs took three flights. BGSU's winners included Hiscox at the second flight, sophomore Nicolas Lopez-Acevedo at the third level and freshman Nick Moxley at the #6 flight.
Other Falcon competitors included Wild at the top flight, fellow junior Mike Kossoff at the fourth level and sophomore Micael Lopez-Acevedo at #5.
Kossoff's match, against FSU's Anthony Kountouris, was the final match to finish. The Bulldog senior won a 7-5 third set.
BGSU, now 7-1 on the season, returns to action with a Saturday match vs. DePaul University. Action begins at 4:00 p.m. at Shadow Valley.
