CLEVELAND, Ohio - Bowling Green State University softball student-athletes Nikki Rouhana (Westerville, Ohio/North) and McKenna Houle (Grass Lake, Mich./Chelsea) are the recipients of the Mid-American Conference's weekly awards. Rouhana has been named the MAC's Player of the Week in the East Division, while Houle is the league's Pitcher of the Week. The league office made the announcement late Monday (April 23).
Rouhana earns the conference honor for the second time this year and the third time in her Falcon career, while Houle's award is her first as a Falcon.
Rouhana, a senior first baseman, hit .571, going 16-of-28, as the Falcons won all seven games last week. She led the team in batting average and runs scored (10), and tied for the lead with a slugging percentage of .857.
In the team's five MAC games, Rouhana hit a team-high .667 (14-of-21), and also paced the Brown and Orange in hits (14), runs (nine), doubles (three), slugging pct. (.952), on-base pct. (.667) and total bases (20). Rouhana has had at least two hits in each of the last six games.
Rouhana went 7-for-9 at the plate in Wednesday's (April 18) doubleheader sweep at Akron, posting the first four-hit game of her career in the opener. In the nightcap, she led off the game with a homerun that gave BG the lead for good.
Rouhana was 7-for-12 in the Falcons' three-game weekend (April 20-21) sweep at Buffalo. On the week, Rouhana raised her season batting average from .337 to .395. In MAC games, she leads the league with a .473 average, and has had 10 multiple-hit games in the 15 contests.
Houle, a sophomore, was 2-0 with an ERA of 0.00 last week. She threw a complete-game shutout at Buffalo Saturday (April 21), allowing just five hits in seven innings of work.
Earlier in the week, she pitched a complete game and got the win in an 8-5, eight-inning victory over Akron. She did not allow an earned run in that game, and allowed a total of just five hits. Houle had a total of nine strikeouts in the two games.
On the season, Houle is 9-5 with a team-best 1.42 ERA. In MAC games, she has half of the Falcons' wins, having gone 6-1 with an ERA of just 0.64.
