CLEVELAND, Ohio - A pair of Bowling Green State University student-athletes have been named to the All-Mid-American Conference team, the league office has announced. Junior Vitek Wild and sophomore Geoff Hiscox each were named to the all-conference first team.
Wild, a native of Prague, Czech Republic, earns all-league honors for the third time in as many years. He was an all-league first-team selection last season after being named to the second team as a freshman two years ago.
Hiscox, a native of London, Ontario, has also been named to the All-MAC squad in each of his collegiate seasons, having earned second-team laurels last year as a freshman.
Wild posted a singles record of 24-12 this season, including a 3-1 MAC mark and a 1-0 record in the league tournament. In doubles, he was 23-17, going 2-0 in the conference championships.
In the team's final match, a narrow 4-3 loss to eventual champion Western Michigan in the semifinal round of the MAC Championships, Wild became the winningest player in school history. With a year remaining in his collegiate career, he now has a total of 143 combined career wins. Wild ranks fourth with 77 singles wins, and he is sixth with 66 doubles victories in his BGSU tenure.
Hiscox went 24-9 in singles this season, including a 3-1 record in MAC dual play and a 1-0 mark in the league tourney. In doubles, he was a stellar 26-7, going 4-1 with senior Brandon Gabel in MAC play and 1-0 in the tournament.
His total of 50 combined wins this season is the third highest in school history, and his doubles victory total of 26 is fourth on that seasonal list, falling just two shy of the school record.
After just two years in the Brown and Orange, Hiscox has a total of 92 combined career wins.
Hiscox and Wild are joined on the All-MAC First Team by Ball State's Jason Pressel and Michael Westerhof, Western Michigan's Fernando Garcia and Raymond van Wasbeek of Northern Illinois.
The second team consists of BSU's Edgardo Rivera and Andrew Seni, Toledo's Dipesh Rao, and the WMU trio of Ravishankar Pathanjali, Steve Pillon and Ryan Tomlinson.
Garcia was named the league's player of the year, while teammate Pathanjali was the newcomer of the year. Bill Richards of Ball State was named the coach of the year, while Buffalo's Budi Susanto won the Jack Vredevelt Sportsmanship Award.
The Falcons of head coach Jay Harris finished 19-10 overall this season, winning the most dual matches since 1979. BGSU went 3-2 in MAC regular-season play.
