Bowling Green, Ohio - Bowling Green State University (33-11) completed a doubleheader sweep of visiting Oakland University on Wednesday with a 10-0 shutout of the Golden Grizzlies in game two. The game was called after five innings due to the 10-run rule.
BGSU picked up right where it left off in game one by scoring all 10 runs in the first four innings. In the first inning, outfielder Lee Morrison got the scoring going with an RBI-single to left field, scoring junior Tim Newell. The next two runs for the Falcons came on bases-loaded walks issued to DH Nate Henschen and catcher Justin Haire. The fourth run came after an Oakland error brought in shortstop Nick Elrod.
The Falcons led off the second inning with three consecutive home runs by centerfielder Aric Christman, Newell and first baseman Kelly Hunt. For Hunt, the homer tied him for the team lead with Morrison with 13. Both are now just two away from tying the school record held by three former Falcons. Hunt finished the day 4-for-5 at the plate with two runs batted in.
Southpaw Keith Laughlin (3-1) went the distance on the mound for BGSU, allowing just five hits and no runs, including two walks and three strikeouts.
BGSU hosts Mid-American Conference foe Kent State University this weekend in the final home series for the Falcons. Game one of the four-game series begins on Friday, May 4, at 3 p.m. A doubleheader for Saturday is scheduled to start at 1 p.m. with one game on Sunday at 1 p.m. All games will be played at Warren E.
