MOUNT PLEASANT, Mich. - Five Bowling Green State University softball players have been named to the 2001 All-Mid-American Conference Team. The team was announced on Wednesday (May 9) at the MAC Tournament banquet, hosted by Central Michigan University.
The Falcons, the East Division champions during the regular season, were the lone school to place four athletes on the first team.
Senior Nikki Rouhana was named as the first-team first baseman for the second consecutive year, and was joined by classmate Jen Domschot, who earned first-team accolades at an outfield spot. Junior outfielder Renee Rosemeier and sophomore pitcher McKenna Houle were voted to the team as at-large selections.
Senior second baseman Angie Domschot was named to the All-MAC Second Team as an at-large selection.
Rouhana, a native of Westerville, Ohio, led the league in batting (.415), hits (34, 1.42 per game), runs scored (27, 1.12 per game) and total bases (49, 2.04 per game) in MAC contests. She ranked second in both doubles and on-base percentage, and fifth in slugging pct. in league games.
Overall, Rouhana brings a .358 batting average into the tournament. She has a fielding percentage of .985, including a .990 mark in conference games. Rouhana has been a team captain in each of the last three years.
Jen Domschot, a Toledo native, is batting a team-high .364 this year, and leads BGSU with 44 runs scored, a school-record 28 walks, a .475 on-base percentage and a .601 slugging pct. She leads the entire MAC in the first three categories.
In conference games, Domschot hit .394 with a MAC-best .500 on-base pct. Domschot makes the All-MAC squad for the third time, having been named to the second team in each of her first two years in uniform.
Rosemeier is batting .290 this season, with five homeruns and a school record-tying 39 RBI to date. In MAC play, the Hilliard, Ohio, native batted .325.
Rosemeier had four homers, tying her for the league lead, and 25 RBI, tied for second in the MAC, in conference games.
Houle, a native of Grass Lake, Mich., has an 11-7 record and a 1.42 earned-run average this season. In MAC action, she went 7-3 with an 0.83 ERA, ranking fourth in the league in the latter category.
Houle, like Rosemeier, earns all-league honors for the first time in her BGSU career.
Angie Domschot, a Toledo native, is hitting .289 this season, and batted .308 in conference games. She is ranked on every BGSU career hitting list, and holds the school record with 19 career triples.
Angie Domschot earns MAC honors for the second time, having been named to the first team as a sophomore in 1999.
The last time the Falcons placed four players on the All-MAC First-Team was in 1988.
BGSU (34-17 overall, 19-5 MAC) opens MAC Tournament play on Thursday (May 10) in Mount Pleasant. The second-seeded Falcons will take on the winner of Thursday morning's game between #3 Ball State and #6 Northern Illinois. BGSU's game is scheduled to begin at 3:00 p.m. at the CMU Softball Complex.
