Bowling Green - Bowling Green State University's Assistant Athletic Director for Academic Affairs, Darren Hamilton, has been selected to attend the 2001-02 NCAA Leadership Institute for Ethnic Minority Males. Hamilton, in his second year at BGSU, will participate in four sessions over the next year that will be a part of the inaugural conference, sponsored by the National Collegiate Athletic Association.
The four sessions include, Leadership and Administration (June 29-July 1, 2001), Human Resource Management (Nov. 2-4, 2001), Finance and Fundraising (Feb. 8-10, 2002), and Booster, Public and Media Relations (June 28-30, 2002). All four sessions will be held in Indianapolis, Ind.
Hamilton said the initiative to have such a gathering of leaders from other universities, and be a part of it, says a lot about the NCAA and BGSU.
"It speaks volumes for what the NCAA is trying to do to diversify its administrators and for what Paul Krebs (BGSU Director of Athletics) is trying to do here at BGSU," Hamilton said.
Krebs nominated Hamilton for the conference and he was one of 29 individuals selected to attend. All together, Hamilton said there will be one representative from Division II, three from Division III, one from the Atlantic-10 Conference, Southwest Athletic Conference, Western Athletic Conference and the Ohio Valley Conference, and 21 from Division I institutions.
"One of the things you'll do is share what we're doing here and you'll listen to what others are doing at their respective universities and conferences," Hamilton said. "The more diverse you're background becomes the better off your department is."
