BOWLING GREEN, Ohio - Rob Fehrman of Byesville was one of more than 70 Bowling Green State University students and numerous campus organizations honored for their service and leadership at the Gregory T. DeCrane Applauding Excellence Banquet this spring.
The annual event, now in its sixth year, is named in honor of a former BGSU student affairs administrator. DeCrane gave more than 30 years of service to the University, retiring as dean of students after the 1998-99 academic year.
Forty students received one of three major leadership awards: the President's Award for Distinguished Service, the Student Life Award, and the Outstanding Community Service Award.
Fehrman, a May graduate who majored in communication disorders, received an Outstanding Community Service Award. The son of Roy and Sondra Fehrman, he is a five-year member of the BGSU football team. During the 2000 season he served as team captain and earned All-Mid-American Conference second-team honors.
His campus activities include serving as vice president and treasurer for Fellowship of Christian Athletes as well as participating in Campus Crusade for Christ and Falcon Quest, BGSU athletes who speak to elementary students in the Bowling Green area. Fehrman is a 1996 graduate of Meadowbrook High School.
The Outstanding Community Service Awards and the Student Life Awards are given to freshmen, sophomores, juniors and seniors who have added greatly to the University community and the Bowling Green community, respectively.
The President's Award for Distinguished Service is given to seniors and graduate students who have made significant contributions and are involved in both the University and Bowling Green communities.
