BGSU Men's Soccer Releases 2001 Schedule

Bowling Green - Bowling Green State University men's soccer announced its 2001 schedule today, which includes the BGSU Diadora Classic (Sept. 22-23) and a trip to the James Madison Invitational (Sept. 14 & 16) in Harrisonburg, Va.
Coach Mel Mahler and his Falcons begin the 2001 season with three home exhibition matches against Wright State (Aug.24), Dayton (Aug. 26) and Oakland (Aug. 27). Bowling Green then kicks off the regular season at Michigan State on Friday, Sept. 7, followed by a trip to another Big Ten member, Ohio State, Sunday, Sept. 9.
BGSU then travels to Virginia to play in the James Madison Invitational the following weekend (Sept. 14 & 16), taking on George Mason on the first day and then the host Dukes on the 16th.
The Falcons return home to Mickey Cochrane Field for their first home matches of the regular season when they host the Diadora Classic (Sept. 22-23). Action on the first day will include Dayton taking on the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee and Bowling Green entertaining Canisius. Day two will see BGSU taking on UW-Milwaukee and Dayton playing Canisius.
Bowling Green plays four of its next six matches on the road, beginning with a trip to Akron to play the Zips (Sept. 28) and then to Buffalo (Sept. 30). The Falcons take on their third Big Ten opponent on Oct. 11 at Michigan, then conclude a four-match road trip at Marshall (Oct. 14), Cincinnati (Oct. 17), and Cleveland State (Oct. 26).
Three of the four final home matches for Bowling Green will be against Mid-American Conference foes, including a rematch of the 2000 MAC Tournament Championship against Kentucky on Friday, Oct. 5. Other home matches include Northern Illinois (Oct. 7), Detroit (Oct. 28) and the season finale against Western Michigan (Nov. 4).
BGSU (9-8-1 overall) finished the 2000 regular season 5-1-1 and earned the right to host the 2000 MAC Championship at Cochrane Field, where they fell to visiting Kentucky, 1-0.
