BOWLING GREEN, Ohio - The Women's Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA) has announced its annual Academic Top 25 lists for collegiate divisions, and the Bowling Green State University program is among the honorees.
The WBCA released the national academic lists at the NCAA Division I, II, III, NAIA and JC/CC levels. The Falcons are ranked 20th among all NCAA Division I teams.
Team grade point averages are determined by the total number of quality points divided by the total number of hours attempted for the 2000-01 academic school year. The winners are determined following nominations submitted by WBCA-member coaches.
"The Academic Top 25 teams exemplify the best of the best in our sport," WBCA CEO Beth Bass said. "Not only do they get it done on the court, but they are outstanding students as well. We congratulate all of our Academic Top 25 teams and the winners in each division."
The Falcon program, one of five Mid-American Conference schools listed among the nation's top 25, had a team GPA of 3.232 during the 2000-01 academic year. BGSU tied the University of Washington for the 20th spot.
"I am ecstatic about inheriting a team that is ranked in the top 25 academically," said coach Curt Miller. "I am very dedicated to the student-athlete, and I am committed to building upon this success.
"I want the Bowling Green program to be nationally ranked, both in the classroom and on the court. If you look at my track record, I've always been dedicated to recruiting quality student-athletes. To have this base to build upon is very exciting to me."
