Toledo Wins Lady Falcon Invitational, BGSU Finishes Third

Bowling Green - Bowling Green State University finished third at the 2001 Lady Falcon Invitational this weekend held at BGSU's Forrest Creason Golf Course. The 36-hole invitational was won by the University of Toledo with a team score of 618. Western Michigan University was second (620), followed by BGSU (630), Youngstown State (635), and Grand Valley (656) rounded out the top five.
Bowling Green's Shelley Binzel shot a 72 on day one and carded a 77 on Sunday for a final score of 149, one stroke behind WMU's Erica Bienick. Bienick shot a 71 on day one and 77 on day two (148) to win the Falcon Invitational. Four UT golfers placed in the top-10 to secure the team victory.
Other BGSU golfers placing included sophomore Jenny Schnipke (T-20th, 161), senior Shannon Smith (T-20th, 161), junior Stephanie Elsea (T-27th, 163) and sophomore Julie Wise (T-29th, 164).
The Falcons travel to State College, Pa., next weekend (Sept. 29-30) for Penn State's Nittany Lion Fall Invitational. The tournament will be a 54-hole medal play with 14 teams competing.
