DELAWARE, Ohio - The Bowling Green State University cross country teams of coach Cami Wells competed at the All-Ohio Championships on Friday afternoon (Oct. 11) in Delaware, Ohio. The Falcon women's team posted a seventh-place finish, while the BGSU men finished 22nd. There were a total of 39 schools entered in each race.
On the women's side, the Falcons had a team score of 263. Amber Culp led BGSU individuals in the 5K race, placing 18th overall in a time of 19:05.1.
Other BGSU competitors among the 267 finishers included Nicole Suitor (51st, 19:58.7), Nicola Viljoen (53rd, 19:59.5), Briana Killian (63rd, 20:05.8), Melissa Krueger (69th, 20:08.9), Sarah Lohrbach (75th, 20:17.2) and Elise Gould (89th, 20:25.5).
On the men's side, Mario Rothmund led the way, finishing 22nd in a time of 26:41.8 in the 8K race. Rothmund and Culp have been the top BGSU finishers in each of the last three races.
Other Falcon men among the 263 finishers included Patrick Maynard (105th, 28:31.6), Kris Lachowski (132nd, 29:03.4), Troy Stiles (158th, 29:39.7), Steve Blasko (162nd, 29:46.9) and Josh Stucky (168th, 29:52.8).
Ohio State's men and Toledo's women posted team titles at the meet.
Overall, the women had a decent day," said Wells. "We still have some areas to work on and the Auburn meet will give us a chance for one final tuneup before the MAC meet.
"The All-Ohio course is very hilly and challenging, which is reflected in the times. It is a true cross country course that challenges the athletes mentally and physically. I was pleased with the way the women responded to the metal challenge today.
"On the men's side, we didn't have a great day. Mario Rothmund is a bit under the weather, so he didn't have one of his best efforts today, but he'll bounce back for next week.
"This race really showed us exactly where we need to work. The mental toughness still isn't quite where it needs to be and that is something we will continue to work on the next three weeks leading up to the MAC meet."
Next up for the Falcons is the Auburn Invitational in Auburn, Ala., on Oct. 19. That race marks BGSU's final action before the Mid-American Conference Championships in Oxford, Ohio, on Nov. 2.
