Richmond, Ky. - The Bowling Green State University women's golf team ended its fall season on a high note, finishing third out of 14 teams at this weekend's Eastern Kentucky Fall Invitational. The Falcons carded a school-record 618, just two strokes behind tournament winner Western Kentucky and one back of Ohio.
Individually, junior Jenny Schnipke (Kalida, Ohio) won the tournament by carding a new school record 145 for 36 holes. The 36-hole score broke current teammate Shelley Binzel's record of 148 set just under one month ago (Sept. 22). Schnipke's round of 70 on Saturday tied the 15-year-old school record held by Ingrid Lundblad for 18 holes. It marked the first tournament championship for Schnipke in her career. She finished as runnerup once last season and had two third-place finishes as a freshman.
"All in all it was a good weeekend," said BGSU coach Kurt Thomas. "We played well. It was a good finish for us to the fall season."
Binzel finished tied for fourth overall, tying her personal-best and former school-record score of 148 (72-76). The other top-20 finisher for BGSU was senior Stephanie Elsea who was tied for 17th (156). Freshman Amanda Schroeder was tied for 54th place with a score of 170 and senior Emily Hassen was 69th (175).
