Lane Earns Player Of The Week Honors

East DivisionOffense: Byron Leftwich, Marshall, QB (Sr., Washington, D.C.) in just one half, Leftwich passed for 447 yards and four touchdowns, completing 28-of-35 attempts in a 66-21 win over Buffalo. Leftwich paced the Herd to a 52-0 halftime lead with scoring strikes of 63, 12, 20 and 27 yards.
Offense: Ben Roethlisberger, Miami, QB (So., Findlay, Ohio) set a MAC record with 41 completions, breaking the mark of 40 he set last year, on 61 attempts (third most in league history) for 525 yards, the second highest total in league history and most ever in a confer-ence game, in a 48-41 loss to Northern Illinois. Also rushed for a touchdown from 10 yards out.
Defense: Asante Samuel, UCF, DB (Jr., Ft. Lauderdale, Fla.) a key to the Golden Knight's first-ever MAC conference win in a 31- 27 decision at Western Michigan. Samuel registered two intercep-tions and four pass break ups. His second interception came at the two-yard line with 45 seconds left and preserved the victory. Samuel's first theft came at the UCF 38-yard line with the Broncos leading 14-7. He also had three tackles.
Special Teams: Stafford Owens, Ohio, Punt Returner (So., Harvey, Ill.) returned a punt 72 yards for a touchdown in a 55-27 win over Eastern Michigan. Had 92 yards on four punt returns in the game. Also had 79 rushing yards and caught a 47-yard touchdown pass.

Offense - Akron RB Bob Hendry (career-high 240 yards and two touchdowns on 26 carries in a 49-21 win versus Liberty); UCF WR Jimmy Fryzel (career bests with seven receptions and 113 yards and one touchdown at Western Michigan); Ohio FB Chad Brinker (127 yards, four touchdowns on 17 carries in a 55-27 win over East-ern Michigan).
Defense - Marshall LB J.T. Rembert (seven tackles, one fumble recovery and fumble return for a touchdown and an interception versus Buffalo); Ohio CB Dion Byrum (four tackles and first ca-reer interception versus Eastern Michigan)
Special Teams - UCF KR Doug Gabriel (112 yards on six kickoff returns with a long of 28 yards at Western Michigan); Marshall PK Curtis Head (a stadium record 53-yard field goal versus Buffalo).
West Division
Offense: Michael Turner, Northern Illinois, TB (Jr., North Chi-cago, Ill.) rushed for 222 yards and a MAC record-tying five touch-downs on 20 carries, an average of 11.1 yards per carry, in a 48-41 win at Miami. Turner scored on runs of 73, 31, 15, 9 and 5-yards) and became the first 1,000 yard rusher in the nation this year. Turner scored three touchdowns in a span of 7:55 to rally the Huskies from a 27-7 deficit to a 27-27 tie.
Defense: Tom Ward, Toledo, LB (Sr., Defiance, Ohio) had 21 tack-les in a 37-17 win over Ball State as the Rockets won their 17th straight home game. Ward had two tackles for losses and helped limit the Cardinals Marcus Merriweather (115 ypg) to 76 yards, nearly 40 yards below his average.
Special Teams: B.J. Lane, Bowling Green (Fr., Ft. Washington, Md.) in his first appearance on the punt block unit, Lane recorded a block in the second quarter that resulted in a Falcon touchdown recovered by teammate Marcus Allen in the end zone. The play gave BG a lead for good at 14-7 inm what would be a 45-35 win atCentral Michigan. Lane also had two tackles and two assisted tackles on special teams.

Offense - Bowling Green QB Josh Harris (rushed for a season-high 138 yards and three touchdowns on 22 carries and threw for 176 yards (18-of-38) and a touchdown in a 45-35 win at Central Michigan); Toledo QB Brian Jones (21-of-26 passing for 258 yards, three touchdowns and no interceptions versus Ball State).
Defense - Northern Illinois DB Vince Thompson (10 tackles, two interceptions and three pass deflections in a 48-41 win at Miami); Western Michigan LB Jason Malloy (had a team-high eight tack-les and returned an interception 46 yards for a touchdown in a 31- 27 loss to UCF).
