Two Falcons Compete At ITA Regional

EAST LANSING, Mich. - A pair of Bowling Green State University women's tennis standouts competed in Thursday action (Oct. 24) at the 2002 ITA/Omni Hotels Midwest Regional Championships. The invitational is being held in East Lansing, Mich.
In Thursday's action in the qualifying round of the singles bracket, sophomore Susie Schoenberger was a first-round winner. Schoenberger posted a 6-1, 6-1 win over Drake's Melinda Fenimore in her opening match. In the second round, Schoenberger extended #9-16 seed Debra Streifler of Michigan to a third set before falling, 3-6, 6-2, 6-1. (The top-eight players were seeded in the 64-player bracket, with the next eight all listed as #9-16 seeds.)
Junior Lisa Maloney also competed in the singles qualifier. She lost a three-set match to Western Michigan's Malena Remynse, 6-4, 6-7 (2), 6-3. Then, Maloney fell to Teri Gonzaga of Wisconsin by a 6-3, 6-4 count in the consolation round.
Maloney and Schoenberger will team up to compete in the doubles qualifier, beginning Friday afternoon (Oct. 25). The duo is scheduled to face the team of Lauren Connelly and Alicia Salas of Notre Dame. The winner of that match will likely face the #1-seeded duo of Indiana's Karie Schlukebir and Linda Tran.
