Bowling Green, Ohio - The Bowling Green State Univeristy football team is banging on the door to join the nation's elite college football programs. The Falcons, who own the third longest winning streak in the nation at seven games, are rated 26th in the ESPN/USA Today coaches poll and 32nd in this week's Associated Press poll.
It is believed that BGSU has never been ranked (Top 20 or Top 25) in the two major polls but often has received votes. The Falcons began competing at the major college (now Division IA) level in 1961, except in 1982 when the MAC was not recognized as Division IA. The polls rated anywhere from 10-20 teams each week before expanding the rankings to the current 25 teams in 1989.
