Bowling Green, Ohio - The Bowling Green State University baseball team announced today its schedule for the 2003 season. After winning four of the last five Mid-American Conference East Division Championships, this spring will mark the first year for the Falcon baseball team in the West Division.
BGSU kicks off its 2003 season at the same place it did the 2002 season - Knoxville, Tenn. The Falcons will take on Southeastern Conference power Tennessee Feb. 21-23. The three-game set will mark the beginning to the year for the Falcons while the Vols will already have played six games. The Falcons went 1-2 in a three-game set at UT last year.
Bowling Green then returns to the state of Ohio for a three-game series in two days at Dayton (March 1-2), with a doubleheader on March 1.
Then, BGSU travels afar again, only this time it goes West for the Pepsi/Johnny Quik Classic at Fresno State University (Fresno, Calif.). The Falcons will be in California from March 8-16 and begin the tournament with a matchup against Penn State (March 8).
When BGSU returns, it will kickoff its home opener of 2003 at Warren Steller Field with a visit from Tiffin University (March 18) at 2 p.m. That game begins a six-game homestand with Detroit (March 19), Buffalo (March 22-23), Michigan State (March 25) and Dayton (March 26).
BGSU plays its first road league game at Eastern Michigan on March 28 (6 p.m.) while hosting a doubleheader with the Eagles the next day (March 29).
Other notable home games at Steller Field include Oakland (April 5 - DH), IPFW (April 15), Wright State (April 16), Marshall (April 25-27), Western Michigan (May 2-4), and Toledo (May 17 - DH).
BGSU and rival Toledo will again meet up at the home of the Toledo Mud Hens, Fifth Third Field, in the season finale on May 18. The single game will start at 2 p.m.
Other non-conference opponents for the Falcons include trips to Notre Dame (April 8) and Ohio State (April 30).
BGSU finished 2002 as the MAC Regular Season Champions with an 18-7 league mark and hosted the conference's postseason tournament. The Falcons were 32-22 overall.
