THIS WEEK
The Bowling Green volleyball team (3-12 MAC; 8-19 overall) is set to go into the last two weeks of the regular season. This weekend, BG will host the University at Buffalo on Friday, November 15, at 6:00 p.m. in Anderson Arena. This will be the first meeting of the two squads this season.
The Bulls are currently led by junior Lindsay Matikosh who is posting 3.71 kills-per-game. Backing her up is classmate Alexis Bouie who is averaging 2.44 kills-per-game. Buffalo is 9-19 overall and 1-13 in the MAC. The Falcons lead the all-time series 7-0.
In BG's second match of the week, the Falcons will face off against the Huskies of Northern Illinois. The Sunday afternoon match will be held at 3:00 p.m. in DeKalb, Illinois. In the first meeting of the two squads back on October 6, BG fell to the defending MAC Champions in three straight games, 21-30, 27-30, 28-30.
Leading BG in that match was senior Kristin Gamby who put away 13 kills on 31 attempts to hit an impressive .355 for the day. Junior Susie Norris added nine kills and led the team in the backcourt with 10 digs. Currently, the Huskies are 12-14 overall and 5-9 in the league. They are being led by sophmore Tera Lobdell and senior Jen Vonderhaar. Lobdell, the 2001 MAC Freshman of the Year, is averaging 3.54 kills-per-game while Vonderhaar is posting 3.12 slams-per-game.
LAST WEEK
The Falcons went 0-1 last week, losing a heartbreaker to long-time rival Ball State on Friday (Nov. 8). The Falcons took the Cardinals to five games but fell in the end, 25-30, 30-24, 30-27, 23-30, 11-15.
BG did not go down easy, though, as five players posted 10 kills or more in the match and three players nailed double-double performances. Senior Kristin Gamby led the way with 17 slams on 47 attempts for a .255 efficiency. The Mt. Victory, Ohio native also had 12 digs for her fourth double-double of the season. Susie Norris followed closely with 15 kills on 36 attempts for a .278 average and also notched 10 digs for her 15th double-double performance of 2002. Freshman Emily Manser had an impressive night as she put away 13 kills on 33 attempts for a .273 average and swept up the backcourt with 20 digs to lead both squads. This was Manser's second double-double performance of her BG career.
Other notable efforts came from juniors Nadia Bedricky and Laura Twyman and sophomore Taylor Twite. As BG's current libero player, Bedricky picked up 12 digs to add to the Falcons total of 83. Twyman nailed 10 kills and blocked three balls while Twite put away 12 kills and also returned three blocks.
