MAC PLAY BEGINS
With just two games under their belt, BGSU will open the 2002-03 conference season when it hosts Buffalo on Wednesday night. The Falcons, 1-1, are picked to finish fifth in the MAC West Division, while the Bulls were chosen to finish sixth in the East.
FALCONS WIN HOME OPENER
BGSU scored 52 points in the first half and went on to post a 91-57 win over Tiffin University in the Falcons' home-opener at Anderson Arena, November 30. BGSU had five players reach double figures, including Kevin Netter and Cory Ryan with 19 apiece. Tiffin cut the Falcon lead to just one with only 7:01 left in the first half (29-28). However, BGSU went on a 23-6 run to finish the first half and hold a 52-32 lead at the break. Sophomore John Reimold and Netter both had 13 points in the first half for the Falcons. The Falcons shot 51.6 pct. (16-of-31) in the first half while Tiffin was 11-of-21 (52.4 pct.) in the first half. BGSU shot 45.2 pct. (28-of-62) for the game while going 31-of-38 from the charity stripe. Tiffin was 19-of-55 from the field (34.5 pct.) and 15-of-25 from the charity stripe for the game.
BULLS HAVE BEEN TOUGH
Buffalo is 2-2 after defeating Rhode Island at home, 57-48, on Saturday night. In the Bulls' only previous road tilt of the season, they were edged by Detroit, 66-65. Sophomore Mark Bortz is their top scorer averaging 11.8 points, while Turner Battle is averaging 10.3 points per game. UB also has defeated Chicago State and lost to Cornell.
TOUGH AT HOME
Since the 1998-99 season, BGSU is 48-7 at home. The Falcons have posted 16 straight wins against non-league foes and were 13-1 at home last season. In the teams' matchup in BG last season, the Falcons took home a 73-58 triumph in late February.
WE'LL BE HOME FOR CHRISTMAS
Following the Buffalo game, the Falcons will face a tough road stretch when they visit Northwestern (December 7), Michigan (December 11) and play #4 Alabama (December 14) in the Coors Classic in Mobile, Alabama. The Falcons next home game will be December 19 against Oakland.
