BOWLING GREEN, Ohio -
BGSU HEAD COACH CURT MILLER:
"Tonight was a disappointing loss. To Butler's credit, they played very, very hard, and -- even though Nancy Bowden ends up with only 10 points, she had 10 assists and she dominated the game. She is their catalyst, both offensively and defensively, and we really were exposed without Lindsay (Austin). What Nancy does for them is what we feel Lindsay Austin needs to do for us. A great deal of our offense depends on the ability to create shots for other people. We did not attack them aggressively off the dribble all night. That is shown by the statistic that we only were able to get to the foul line 10 times. Their ball pressure was tremendous and had us out of sync all night."
"They're very athletic, and we knew that transition defense was a huge part of our game plan. They just beat us up and down the floor, time and time again."
"They have three very capable three-point shooters. You have to roll the dice: Are you going to guard their speed and worry about their penetration, or are you going to play zone and worry about their three-point shooting. And, I think they did a good job attacking both. To only give up 61 points, and not feel like you were ever in the game down the stretch is a disappointment. If you take away transition layups, and put-backs off offensive rebounds, I thought we played well on defense. We played well enough on defense to win tonight, but offensively, their pressure had us out of sync all game."
"We needed to play Lindsay a few minutes tonight, just for confidence's sake. She wanted to give it a go this weekend down in Florida, and I felt like she'd be very rusty if we didn't give her a few minutes (tonight). Ten minutes was a little more than I planned, but I thought she hung in there pretty well with a bad ankle sprain. She's just such a spark; she's such a different dimension for us. It will be nice to get her back to full strength."
BUTLER HEAD COACH BETH COUTURE:
"It's hard to go on the road and hold the lead the whole game. I think Bowling Green's got to get credit for that run. They just played hard, picked up a couple steals that led to transition buckets ... I knew they would make a run, but we just got the lead big enough early, and then withstood that run. I'm proud of our girls; we're just playing hard right now."
"We have got to push the ball to be successful ... I felt like we were making great decisions tonight. That's (up-tempo offense) our strength, and I think that's something we have to do, offensively."
