Falcons Travel to Ferris State
Bowling Green travels to Big Rapids, Mich., this weekend for a Central Collegiate Hockey Association series against Ferris State University. It will be the only road trip for the Falcons in February. Friday's game is scheduled for 7:35 p.m. while Saturday's contest will be at 7:05 p.m.
BGSU Versus Ferris State (12-13-1 overall, 9-10-1 CCHA)
BGSU is just 3-6-1 in its last 10 games in Big Rapids, Mich., but lead the overall series 47-30-9. Three of the last five matchups against FSU have gone to overtime, with BGSU finishing 2-1-1 in those games. In fact, five of the last 12 and seven of the last 18 games between the two schools have gone into the extra period. Ten of the last 12 games have been decided by two or less goals.
Head Coach Buddy Powers
Buddy Powers (Boston University '75) is in his eighth season as head coach of the Falcons. Powers has an overall record of 253-213-40 (.540 pct.) in 13 years as head coach at Bowling Green (1994-SA), Rensselaer (1989-94) and Rochester Institute of Technology (1988-89). The Jan. 5 game vs. Princeton was Powers' 500th as a head coach. His record with the Brown and Orange stands at 133-142-25 (.485 pct.). Appointed the head coach at Bowling Green on July 12, 1994, Powers is the fourth head coach in the program's history. It is his 14th season overall on the Falcon bench after serving six years as assistant coach under Jerry York from 1982-88.
Falcons Drop Two-Game Series vs. Western Michigan
Bowling Green dropped two league games last weekend at the BGSU Ice Arena to visiting Western Michigan. The Broncos came into the series just three points ahead of the Falcons. In Friday's 8-1 loss, FR Steve Brudzewski scored BGSU's lone goal of the game, with assists from Ryan Wetterberg and Roger Leonard. Bowling Green increased its offensive output the next night with four goals, but dropped a 5-4 decision in overtime. It was the first setback in overtime this season (0-1-5). SR Greg Day tied his season-best performance with two goals and one assist while SO D'Arcy McConvey had one goal and two assists for a career high three points.
Day Has A Night
SR captain Greg Day had his best game in nearly three months with 2-1--3 on Saturday vs. Western Michigan. Day scored two even-strength goals and added an assist to play a part in BGSU's first three goals of the game. His two goals came on just four shots and he finished plus-one. His last three-point game came in a 9-4 win vs. Miami on Nov. 9 (2-1--3). Day has been held pointless in three of his last six games, but still has 2-3--5 during that stretch.
