
BGSU Swim Team Ends Season 7th at MAC Championships

Athens, Ohio - Eastern Michigan took the lead from Miami in the first event of the evening and cruised to its third straight Mid-American Conference Championship Saturday night at the Aquatic Center. The Eagles have now won 22 of the last 26 conference championships.
Eastern Michigan finished with 777 points. Miami had 749, Toledo finished with 595, followed by Northern Illinois (393), Ohio (375), Ball State (297), Bowling Green (185) and Buffalo (113). RedHawks senior John Carroll, who tied a MAC record with three individual wins during the meet, was named MAC Swimmer of the Year. It was the second time Carroll won the award (2000).
BGSU junior Ray Bartel was the top Falcon finisher in the meet, placing third in the 100-yard breaststroke on Saturday night in 56.82. Bartel also placed ninth in the 200-yard breaststroke with a time of 2:09.26 and was on Bowling Green's 200-yard medley relay team (sixth place) and 400-yard medley relay team (7th place).
Freshman Robert McRae finished 11th in the 200-yard butterfly in a time of 1:53.72 and was 13th in the 100-yard butterfly (51.07). McRae also competed on BGSU's 800-yard freestyle, 400-yard medley, 200-yard freestyle and 200-yard medley relay teams.
Senior co-captain Kevin Anderson was 11th in the 100-yard butterfly in a time of 50.87 while fellow co-captain Paul Bizzarro was 15th in the 200-yard backstroke with a time of 1:55.18. Senior Mike Griffin was 20th in the 1650-yard freestyle in a time of 16:55.83.
Ohio sophomore Robert Krichbaum was named MAC Diver of the Year. Krichbaum (Delaware) set a new MAC record on the one-meter with a score of 298.00 Thursday night and placed fourth in the three-meter Saturday night (461.55).
Miami's Eric DiSalle was named MAC Senior Swimmer of the Year. DiSalle won the 200 IM (1:49.04) Thursday and the 200 freestyle (1:38.63) Friday. He was also a member of the winning 800 freestyle relay team (6:37.69).
Eastern Michigan's Peter Linn was named MAC Coach of the Year and Toledo's Kelly Lajiness was named MAC Diving Coach of the Year.
