ORLANDO, Fla. - Senior Renee Rosemeier singled home what proved to be the winning run in the top of the seventh inning as the Bowling Green State University softball team posted a 7-6 win over Rider University. The game, BGSU's first at the Rebel Spring Games, was held in Orlando, Fla., Monday afternoon (March 11).
Senior Jessie Milosek was credited with the victory as the Falcons, now 3-4 on the year, snapped a four-game losing streak.
The Falcons took a 6-1 lead before the Broncs battled back. Rider scored once in the fifth inning and four times in the sixth to tie the score. But, the Falcons scored what proved to be the winning run in the top of the seventh.
In that seventh frame, the Falcons scored a two-out run. Freshman Sarah "Sam" Moore drew a walk, and junior Kandice Machain singled and took second on an error, sending Moore to third. Rider chose to intentionally walk junior Libby Voshell, loading the bases and bringing Rosemeier to the plate. Her grounder through the infield scored Moore to give the Falcons the lead for good.
Sophomore Jody Johnson started the game in the circle, before Milosek picked up the win in relief, her first decision of the year.
Machain, who went 2-for-2 at the plate, was one of three Falcons to have multiple-hit games. Both senior Holly Frantz and redshirt sophomore Liz Tuza had two hits in the contest. Junior Crystal Wilson and senior Natalie Phillips had two RBI apiece in the win.
The Falcons were to return to action with a Monday night game vs. Colorado State.
