ORLANDO, Fla. - Junior McKenna Houle threw a complete-game seven-hitter as the Bowling Green State University softball team broke a two-game losing streak with a 3-1 win over Monmouth University Tuesday (March 12). The game, BGSU's fourth at the Rebel Spring Games, was held in Orlando, Fla.
The win improves the Falcons' record to 4-6 on the season. The Hawks, who had opened their season with a win over Toledo earlier Tuesday, drop to 1-1.
BGSU got on the board first, with a run in the bottom of the first inning. Redshirt freshman Marla Murphy singled and came around to score on a double by junior Crystal Wilson.
The Falcons got two more runs in the fourth. Sophomores Val Tipton and Jenifer Kernahan had singles, and both players scored on a double by senior Natalie Phillips.
Those runs were more than enough for Houle, who allowed just the one run and seven hits in her complete-game effort. Houle is now 1-3 on the young season.
At the plate, Wilson, Phillips and senior Holly Frantz all went 2-for-3 in the win.
BGSU is now 2-2 on the team's spring trip, which continues with a pair of games Wednesday (March 13). The Falcons will meet Austin Peay and Yale in afternoon contests in Orlando.
