Falcons Lose A Squeaker To DePaul, 4-3
April 01, 2002 | Men's Tennis
March 30, 2002
TOLEDO, Ohio - Visiting DePaul University won at four of the six singles flights to post a come-from-behind, 4-3 victory over the Bowling Green State University men's tennis team Saturday (March 30). The dual match was held at Shadow Valley in Toledo. With the loss, the Falcons drop to 11-9 on the season.
The Falcons captured the doubles point, as BGSU won two matches by identical 8-3 scores. At the second flight, the team of sophomore Milos Jirout and freshman Ian Bliss was victorious, while junior Geoff Hiscox and sophomore Joel Carney won at the third flight. The match at the top flight was not completed, since BGSU had clinched the doubles point.
In singles, however, the Blue Demons rallied for the victory. BGSU's lone winners were junior Nicolas Lopez-Acevedo at the fourth flight and senior Mike Kossoff at the sixth level. Hiscox, still recovering from an injury suffered in mid-March, lost a narrow three-set match at the third flight. Saturday's match marked the first time since Hiscox had suffered the injury that he had played both singles and doubles.
BGSU's other competitors in singles play were Jirout (flight #1), senior Vitek Wild (#2) and Carney (#5).
The Falcons will continue a six-match homestand with Thursday (April 4) matches against Robert Morris and Wright State. BGSU is slated to face RMC at 11:30 a.m. and WSU at 3:30 p.m.
