CLEVELAND, Ohio - Bowling Green State University men's tennis student-athlete Geoff Hiscox has been named the Mid-American Conference Player of the Week, the league office announced Tuesday (April 9). Hiscox wins the award for the third time in his Falcon career.
Hiscox, a native of London, Ontario, was a perfect 5-0 as the Falcons won three matches by shutout last week. He was 2-0 in singles play, including a defeat of Western Michigan's Ryan Maarschalk (6-2, 6-7, 6-0) as the Falcons opened MAC action with a 7-0 win over the Broncos Saturday (April 6). In that dual vs. WMU, Hiscox teamed with sophomore Joel Carney for a third-flight doubles win.
That Hiscox/Carney duo also won a pair of matches on Thursday (April 4), over teams from Robert Morris (8-0, #2 flight) and Wright State (8-2, #3 flight). As a team, the Falcons recorded 7-0 victories over both the Colonials and the Raiders.
In his only other singles match of the week, Hiscox downed WSU's Chad Camper at the top flight. Hiscox is now 20-9 in singles and 19-10 in doubles this season.
In his Falcon career, Hiscox currently has 131 total wins to rank ninth in school history. He is tied for seventh on the singles win list, with 65, and is eighth with 66 doubles wins.
BGSU players have won the MAC Player-of-the-Week award in three of the first four weeks it has been awarded this season. Junior Nicolas Lopez-Acevedo won the honor for the weeks of March 19 and March 26.
Hiscox has now won the award in each of his three seasons at BGSU, having previously earned league P-O-W laurels on April 5, 2000, and April 19, 2001.
The Falcons (14-9, 1-0 MAC) will be on the road for the next two contests, beginning with a Wednesday (April 10) dual at ninth-ranked Kentucky.
