Falcons Move On With Blanking Of Buffalo

MUNCIE, Ind. - The Bowling Green State University women's tennis team successfully opened play at the Mid-American Conference Championships Thursday (April 25), with a 4-0 win over the University at Buffalo. The match was held at the Cardinal Creek Tennis Center in Muncie, Ind.
The Falcons, the seventh seed for the 10-team tournament, advance to face second-seeded Marshall University in Friday's (April 26) quarterfinal round. That match will begin at 2:00 p.m. locally (3:00 p.m. BGSU time).
The Brown and Orange won or led at every flight en route to the win. BGSU is now 5-17 overall, and has won three consecutive matches. UB ends its season with a 2-16 overall record.
BGSU started quickly, taking the doubles point with a pair of wins at the top-two flights. The number-one team of senior Devon Bissinger and freshman Susie Schoenberger recorded an 8-2 victory over UB's Karen Maynard and Michaela Kollarova.
At the middle flight, sophomores Lisa Maloney and Jessica Johnson blanked their UB foes, 8-0. The third-flight team of freshmen Cameron Benjamin and Laura Kokinda led their opponents by a 5-2 count when the match was halted.
In singles play, the Brown and Orange got wins at the first, fifth and sixth flights to clinch the overall match victory. At the top flight, Bissinger lost only one game to Maynard in a 6-0, 6-1 win.
Kokinda duplicated Bissinger's feat, losing only one game en route to a fifth-flight triumph over Erica Zielinski (6-1, 6-0). Benjamin did them on ebetter, going two sets without losing a single game in her sixth-flight match vs. Meaghan Partelow (6-0, 6-0).
Maloney, junior Alyson Gabel and sophomore Gaby Coello all had won their opening singles sets when their respective matches were stopped.
