
Falcons Fall to Toledo, 13-4

Bowling Green, Ohio - Bowling Green fell behind by four runs in the third inning and was set back by the University of Toledo on Friday afternoon at Warren Steller Field, 13-4.
UT hit three home runs in the third inning and went on to hit five roundtrippers and collect 16 hits. BGSU scored a run in the fifth, a run in the seventh and two in the ninth but had just seven hits for the game.
Mitch Maier and J.D. Foust hit solo home runs followed by a two-run homer by Mike Meinhart in the third frame for the 4-0 Rocket advantage. The inning ended the day for BGSU starter Doug Flere (2-6) who gave up just the three hits (home runs), walked three and struckout two in two and two-third innings of work.
The Falcons put a run on the board in the fifth inning thanks to an RBI-single from freshman Jeff Warnock, scoring Andy Hudak from second base.
In the top of the sixth, though, Toledo plated two more runs on Foust's second home run of the game. He finished with three for the day.
Elrod led off the bottom of the seventh with a double to right field, moved to third base on a wild pitch and scored on a Len Elias sacrifice fly to center field, cutting the Toledo lead to 7-2.
UT scored a run in the seventh and eighth innings while plating five insurance runs in the top of the ninth.
Junior Corey Loomis led off the bottom of the ninth with an infield single and came home on Kelly Hunt's 14th home run of the season, a two-run blast to right field. One out later Len Elias hit a single to center field. But, UT starter J.R. Duffy got pinch-hitter Jimmy Lipari to ground into a game-ending double play for the Rocket win.
Duffy (2-2) walked three and struck out five in the complete-game win. Hunt was the only Falcon with two hits, finishing 2-for-4.
Bowling Green (17-18 overall, 8-6 in MAC) continues its series with the Rockets (13-22, 5-8) on Saturday, April 27, with a doubleheader at Fifth Third Field in downtown Toledo. Game time is scheduled for 1 p.m. BGSU ends the weekend series back at Warren Steller Field on Sunday at 1 p.m.
