Bowling Green, Ohio - Bowling Green State University announced today the hiring of Kevin Patrick as assistant men's ice hockey coach. Patrick joins the staff of first-year head coach Scott Paluch.
Patrick comes to BGSU after serving as assistant hockey coach at Union College (Schenectady, N.Y.) the past four seasons. He was Union's top assistant and recruiting coordinator for the past three years for the Skating Dutchmen. He worked under head coach Kevin Sneddon and oversaw the team's special teams and forwards.
"Kevin brings a very diverse background in coaching and a versatility that will benefit us her at BGSU," said Paluch. "I couldn't be happier with the appointment of Kevin."
"I am excited about being a part of the Scott Paluch era at BGSU," said Patrick. "I'm thrilled to be on his staff and to bring that rich tradition back to the community of Bowling Green and the school. I love the Midwest and enjoyed competing against CCHA schools."
Before Union, Patrick was an assistant coach/vice-president of operations for one year with the Green Bay Gamblers Junior A hockey team of the United States Hockey League (USHL). Patrick began his coaching career in 1993 as an assistant coach at Deerfield Academy (Deerfield, Mass.). That summer, Patrick served as head coach of Team West at the Bay State Games. During his four years at Deerfield, the Big Green went to the New England championships three times and posted a winning percentage of .731.
Prior to beginning his coaching career, Patrick played one year of professional hockey during the 1992-93 campaign with the New Haven Senators (AHL), the St. Thomas Wildcats (CoHL) and the Green Bay Ice (AHA). In 30 games for the Ice, he registered four goals and 18 assists and was elected to the 1993 American Hockey Association All-Star Team.
Patrick graduated from the University of Notre Dame in 1992 with a bachelor's degree in pre-professional studies (pre-med). He received his master's degree in sport management from the University of Massachusetts in 1998. Patrick was a defenseman with the Fighting Irish from 1988-92 and served as the team's captain during both his junior and senior seasons. He was also a member of the Notre Dame lacrosse team that competed in the 1990 NCAA Tournament.
Most recently, Patrick was named as an assistant coach for the Atlantic District at the USA Select 16 Festival in the summer of 2002.
A Schenectady native, Patrick and his wife, Julie, are expecting their first child in September.
