Bowling Green, Ohio - The Bowling Green State University women's swimming and diving program has announced the addition of 14 student-athletes for the 2002-03 academic year. Listed below are the individuals who will be attending BGSU this fall.
"When you mix these new athletes in with our current team, I am very excited with the direction our program is headed," said BGSU assistant coach Kevin Darling. "Our new additions will provide us with much-needed quality and depth. I feel that we went out and really improved at the racing end of the pool. This team will turn some heads in the MAC (Mid-American Conference)."
Stephanie Buckner * Sprint/Mid-Distance * Battle Creek, Mich./Lakeview H.S.
A Michigan state finalist a year ago at Lakeview High School ... "When she adjusts to the college swimming level, I believe that she will be a major player in the conference," said Darling.
Laura Collins * Butterfly/Backstroke * Columbus, Ohio/Bishop Hartley H.S.
Was an Ohio meet qualifier in 2002 in the 100 butterfly ... "Laura will add strong depth to our butterfly and backstroke events," said Darling.
Nicolle Corporon * Freestyle/IM/Butterfly * Granger, Ind./Penn H.S.

Stephanie Cummings * Freestyle/Butterfly/IM/Backstroke * Livonia, Mich./Stevenson H.S.
Swam multiple events at Stevenson High School ... "Stephanie can do a wide variety of events well. She will help us in any event that we put her into," said Darling.

With her international swimming experience in Norway, she has an advantage entering the MAC. "Betsey has a strong backstroke and gives us another strong distance swimmer."
Jessica Guinness * Distance Freestyle * Sylvania, Ohio/Northview H.S.
Was a Northwest Ohio All-District performer, placing second in the 500 freestyle in the district meet ... "It is great to get Jessica to BGSU from a program almost right in our backyard," said Darling.

"We are thrilled to have Carly join us from such a great high school program. Her distance ability will really be valuable for our team," said Darling.

Lauren McClave * Freestyle/Breaststroke * Gates Mills, Ohio/Mayfield H.S.
Helped lead Mayfield High School to one of its best seasons in school history last year ... "Lauren comes in with both speed and middle distance freestyle ability. With her additional talent in the breaststroke, she gives us some depth in our lineup," said Darling.
Kara Ohngren * Distance Freestyle/IM/Breaststroke * Rochester, Mich./Adams H.S.
Was a member of the OLY Club team, which is one of the top club programs in the country ... "Kara will impact our team immediately and can be a swimmer in the 1650 at the MAC Championship Meet," said Darling.
Andi Pereira * Backstroke/Butterfly * Shelbyville, Ind./Shelbyville H.S.
"I believe that Andi is going to thrive and really drop her times once she is able to train everyday at our level," said Darling.
