Chicago, Ill. - Three members of the Bowling Green State University women's golf team were recognized on July 9 by the National Golf Coaches Association (NGCA) for their academic accomplishments.
Senior Shannon Smith (3.65 GPA), and juniors Stephanie Elsea (3.88 GPA) and Shelley Binzel (3.81 GPA) were named to the NGCA Division I All-Scholar team. The Falcons were three of 232 women's collegiate golfers from Division I, II and III to be honored.
The minimum cumulative GPA is 3.50 and student-athletes must have competed in at least 66% of the college's regularly scheduled competitive rounds during the year.

Binzel finished with a school-record 79.82 average in 22 rounds last season. She had five top-10 finishes in 2001-2002, including a runner-up finish at the Lady Falcon Invitational with a BGSU record-low 149 in two rounds. The junior marketing major finished tied for 16th at the MAC Championships in 2002 and is a two-time member of the MAC Academic Honor Roll.
This is the second time both Elsea and Binzel have been named to the NGCA All-Scholar Team.
