BOWLING GREEN, Ohio - This month, BGSU has aligned itself with RealNetworks Inc. and OCSN to provide a pay service available to fans to listen to live Falcon radio broadcasts. A number of factors made this the best option available.
Both OCSN and RealNetworks are their industry leaders
BGSU athletics takes great pride in the response we have received over the past two years regarding its website. Both OCSN and RealNetworks have emerged as the tops in their field and we are confident that these will be long-term relationships.
Advanced Technology
We believe that these two companies can provide us with the technology needed to grow in areas such as video highlights, in-game statistical reports, coaches show exposure, and updated interviews with national media.
Cost
The average cost to the athletic department to have events available on the web could have been anywhere between $10,000 to $20,000 per year.
More Programming
By participating in this venture, we will be able to include hockey (most games), women's basketball (22 games) and some baseball games carried by our student station, WBGU, in this package. This year, only football and men's basketball are available on a commercial station, WBVI-FM in Fostoria, and are the only broadcasts you can receive for free at WBVI.com. WBGU was not available on the internet last year.
We expect to offer 80-100 events through this package.
The Future
One of the realities we believe is that the future of free audio on the internet is possibly short-lived. We believe that aligning ourselves with RealNetworks and OCSN will offer our fans the best in service and quality.
