Bowling Green, Ohio -
BGSU Coach Urban Meyer
First of all I was very proud with the way we came out of the tunnel. This is a very young team and I had some concerns because we sat around the hotel today and I was concerned that they wouldn't come out energized and focused. This was a one-game season. We put all of our energy into this game and it feels good to play the way we did because there was every bit of effort. There was no talk or thought about what is coming up in two weeks or the MAC Conference.
It was extremely important for us to come out and play well in front our student body because they are going to come back. I thought we looked fast and I was really happy with our special teams. We were a couple shoestrings away from two kickoff returns and we blocked two punts.
Offensively, I thought we looked as though I would expect us to look in the first game. The first couple drives we came out and moved the ball down the field, but then we had a lot of mistakes and guys were just not finishing their blocks. I was pleased with the overall effort and there were a lot of happy faces in the locker room. You should be happy that you won but also realize that you have to get better to do the things that we expect this team to do.
BGSU Defensive Back Keon Newson (two blocked punts, one interception)
Well, I knew I could get a blocked punt today because of the speed (Janssen) Patton and I can bring around the outside. We don't overlook special teams.
BGSU Quarterback Josh Harris
We fell off after the first half, considering we did not score the entire second half. There is obviously still some work to be done, but I am definetly pleased with the first half. The offensive line played great, and we had great field position all night. It just seemed like everyone was ready to go.
(Was staying focused for the game a problem)
I would say no. The coaches worked hard to make sure we did not overlook these guys. We were not looking for anyone except Tennessee Tech. We have been preparing since week two of two-a-days for Tennessee Tech.
Tennessee Tech Coach Mike Hennigan
I don't doubt that we aren't as strong physically as Bowling Green. When they blocked the two punts we probably just weren't getting in the right position. We weren't ready for the physical part of the game, and that's a little bit disturbing. No matter how physical we got in camp, or didn't get in camp, it wouldn't have made a difference in the outcome of the game. They were still going to be the better football team.
From the first play, they ripped off a 48-yard play. The field position from that point on got worse with the kicking game not being able to do some things. I give Bowling Green credit. They weren't going to take us lightly and they showed their strength and dominance early on.
