BOWLING GREEN, Ohio - The Bowling Green State University women's soccer team, after four consecutive matches away from home, will return to the friendly confines of Cochrane Field for a pair of matches this weekend. The Falcons (3-2-1, 1-0-0 Mid-American Conference) of head coach Andy Richards will play a pair of MAC home contests, beginning with a Friday (Sept. 20) contest against defending conference tournament champion Miami University. That match, the second half of a men's-women's soccer doubleheader, is scheduled to begin at 4:00 p.m. at Cochrane.

Following the Miami match, the Brown and Orange will remain at home for a Sunday (Sept. 22) match vs. Ball State University, scheduled for a starting time of 2:00 p.m. Next weekend, the Brown and Orange will return to the road, travelling to Northeast Ohio for matches at Akron (Sept. 27) and Kent State (Sept. 29).
HEAD COACH ANDY RICHARDS
Andy Richards is in his third year as a head coach, all at BGSU, and has an overall record of 20-22-4 heading into the Miami match. Richards, who came to BG after five years as an assistant coach at Oregon State University, was hired in April of 2000.
Ashlee Orr is in her third season with the Falcon program as well. Orr was named the BGSU assistant coach in late August of 2000.
LAST WEEK
The Falcons split a pair of 1-0 matches at the Ohio State Tournament in Columbus ... BGSU downed Pittsburgh in Friday (Sept. 13) action, on a goal by senior Jill Conover ... on Sunday (Sept. 15), Missouri, ranked ninth in the Central Region, topped the Brown and Orange, ending BGSU's four-match unbeaten streak.
ABOUT THE FALCONS
The Falcons, as mentioned, are 3-2-1 overall and 1-0 in MAC play ... BGSU has scored eight goals and allowed eight goals through the first six contests ... sophomore Kristy Coppes has scored four of the Falcons' goals this year, and leads the team with eight points ... freshman Leah Eggleton and senior Susan Wallace each have four points on a goal and two assists ... senior Erika Flanders has played all 560 minutes in goal, and has 36 saves and a goals-against average of 1.29.
STARTERS SET 'EM UP, SUBS KNOCK 'EM DOWN
Coach Andy Richards has talked about the depth of his 2002 team, a quality borne out by the following stat ... no fewer than six of BGSU's eight goals this season have come from players off the bench ... Falcon starters have scored two goals to date ... the BG starters have accounted for seven of the team's 11 assists through the first six matches.
THE OPPONENTS
Miami will enter Friday's BGSU match with an overall record of 4-1-1, and the RedHawks have started MAC play with a 2-0 record ... last weekend, MU posted 2-0 shutout wins over both Toledo and Kent State ... the RedHawks have posted three consecutive shutouts, and senior goalkeeper Katie Karlander currently has a 326-minute shutout streak ... Karlander has a GAA of just 0.57 ... four different players have scored two goals apiece, and senior Danielle Berkemeier leads the way with six points on the year ... last year, Miami finished 15-7-1 overall and went 8-3-1 in the MAC ... the RedHawks, after finishing third in the league in the regular season, won the MAC Tournament and advanced to the second round of the NCAA Tournament ... head coach Bobby Kramig welcomed back nine starters from that team ... Ball State will bring a 4-2-0 overall record into the weekend ... the Cardinals are 1-1 in MAC play, heading into a Friday match at Akron ... BGSU trails Miami by a 6-0 count in the all-time series between the schools ... the RedHawks won last year's meeting by a 3-0 count in Oxford (Oct. 28, 2001) ... Miami has posted three one-goal victories in the series , including one in the MAC Tournament Championship match two years ago (Nov. 5, 2000) ... MU won that match by a 1-0 score in the second overtime period ... the RedHawks have won a pair of regular-season matches in BG by scores of 2-1 (Oct. 30, 1998) and 4-1 (Oct. 6, 2000) ... Tracy Gleixner had the Falcon goal in that 1998 match ... MU has also posted victories in Oxford by scores of 3-2 (Oct. 11, 1997) and 3-1 (Oct. 3, 1999).
BGSU and Ball State are all even in their series, at 1-1-1 ... each team has scored five goals in the three matches, after last year's 3-0 Cardinal win in Muncie (Nov. 1, 2001) ... BGSU won the lone previous match at Cochrane Field, 3-0 in 2000 (Oct. 8) ... Gleixner had an assist in that match, while Erika Flanders earned the shutout in net ... in the first-ever meeting between the schools, the teams played to a 2-2 tie in Muncie (Oct. 1, 1999) ... CONOVER CONVERTS
Jill Conover had been held off the scoresheet for 13 matches, by far the longest scoreless streak of her collegiate career ... but, the senior ended that streak with her goal in the Falcons' 1-0 win over Pittsburgh Friday (Sept. 13) ... Conover's goal moved her career points total to 57, increasing her own school record ... she now has 17 career goals, moving her back into sole possession of third place on that BGSU list (sophomore Kristy Coppes had tied Conover for third place with her four goals in the previous week) ... Conover's match-winning goal was the sixth of her career, setting a new BGSU record ... she had shared the record with Stephanie Heller (1997-2000).
MEET THE NEW KIDS
The Falcons' starting lineup has featured at least four freshmen in each of the last five matches ... head coach Andy Richards started six frosh vs. both Detroit and Toledo, five against Eastern Illinois, four vs. Pitt and five against Missouri ... both Molly Bremen and Natalie Sampiller were in the starting lineup for the first time in the Mizzou contest, bringing the total of frosh who have started at least one match this season to eight.
FIRST COLLEGIATE POINTS
Freshman Leslie Dawley assisted on senior Jill Conover's match-winning goal vs. Pittsburgh ... the assist marked Dawley's first collegiate point ... a total of five Falcon frosh have now scored at least one point this year.

NOTING THE FALCONS
Senior Erika Flanders earned her second shutout of the year, and the school-record 12th of her career, in the win over Pitt ... Flanders holds the school goalkeeping records in every career category, including wins (26), saves (372), shutouts and goals-against average (1.67) ... the Pitt win marked the Falcons' first-ever victory over a Big East Conference opponent ... BGSU lost a pair of matches to West Virginia in the first two seasons of the program's history (4-0 in 1997, 6-0 in 1998) ... through the Mizzou match, the Falcons now have an all-time record of 4-6-0 in neutral-site matches ... BGSU saw a total of 11 goals scored in the first two matches of the year, both played at Cochrane Field ... in the last four matches, all away from BG, the Falcons and their opponents have combined for a total of five goals ... BGSU now has an all-time record of 39-56-8 as a varsity program ... all-time, the Brown and Orange squads have posted records of 20-26-2 at home, 15-24-6 on the road and (as mentioned) 4-6-0 in neutral-site contests ... also, in the six-year history of the BGSU women's soccer program, the Falcons have a record of 5-7-8 in overtime matches ...
