Bowling Green, Ohio - The Bowling Green State University women's golf team won its Lady Falcon Invitational on Sunday at Forrest Creason Golf Course (Bowling Green, Ohio) with a team score of 622. It is the first tournament victory for the Falcons this season. BGSU finished eight strokes ahead of second-place Toledo (630).
Senior Shelley Binzel broke her own school record by carding a tournament-low 148 for 36 holes. Her previous school record was 149, which was carded at last year's Falcon Invitational. This year, Binzel shot a 74 on both Saturday and Sunday for the win. After a second-place finish as a freshman and junior, and a third place finish as a sophomore, Binzel won the Falcon Invitational on her fourth and final time.
Also, BGSU's team score of 622 was just two strokes off of the 36-hole school record the Falcons set just two weeks ago at the Ball State Invitational (620). That score had broken a 22-year-old record of 625 set in 1980.
Junior Jenny Schnipke moved from seventh place on Saturday to a third-place finish overall on Sunday (77-75-152). Senior Stephanie Elsea finished tied for 11th with a score of 160 (79-81). Senior Emily Hassen finished tied for 22nd place (84-80-164) and freshman Amanda Schroeder was tied for 30th place (82-85-167).
Following BGSU (622) and Toledo (630) was Xavier (632), Ball State (639), Youngstown State (643), Northern Illinois (670), Oakland (688), Findlay (704) and Gannon (715).
BGSU travels to the Penn State Nittany Lion Invitational in two weeks (Oct. 5-6) before ending its fall schedule with a trip to the Eastern Kentucky Invitational (Oct. 11-12).
