Three Falcons Earn Player of the Week Honors

Three members of the Bowling Green State University football team were honored by the Mid-American Conference for their efforts during the Falcons 39-16 win at Kansas. Running back Joe Alls, nose tackle Alex Glantzis and punter Pat Fleming were named MAC Players of the Week at their respective positions.
West Division
Offense: Joe Alls, Bowling Green, RB (Sr., Sterling Heights, Mich.) rushed for a career-high 161 yards and a touchdown and also threw a 15-yard touchdown pass in the Falcons' 39-16 win at Kansas. The victory marked BG's fifth consecutive over an opponent from a BCS league. Alls' scoring pass to Josh Harris just before half pushed the lead to 22-9. He added 89 rushing yards on the first two series of the second half as the Falcons put the game away 36-9 margin at the time.
Offense: Michael Turner, Northern Illinois, RB (Jr., North Chicago, Ill.) rushed for an NCAA Division IA season high 282 yards and added three touchdowns in a 29-26 loss to Western Illinois. Turner had scoring runs of two, 82 and 65 yards, the fifth and 16th longest runs in school history, respectively. His 282 yards is the fourth most in school history and tied for the eighth most in MAC history.
Defense: Alex Glantzis, Bowling Green, NG (Sr., Mentor, Ohio) had a team-leading nine tackles at Kansas, as well as two sacks and two forced fumbles. His second quarter fumble caused was recov-ered by teammate Mitch Hewitt for a touchdown that gave BG the lead for good. He was also credited with a pass deflection and a hurry.
Special Teams: Pat Fleming, Bowling Green, P (Sr., Ottawa, Ontario) punted seven times for 48.5 yards per kick, including a 61-yard boot at Kansas. Two kicks landed inside the 20 yard line, including one deep in KU territory that helped create a defensive touchdown for the Falcons.

Offense - Toledo RB William Bratton (81 yards and 3 touchdowns on 19 carries in a 38-21 win over UNLV).
Defense - Toledo FS Keon Jackson (4 tackles, caused fumble and recovery, 3 pass deflections, and 1 interception returned for a 31- yard touchdown versus UNLV).
Special Teams - Toledo KR/PR Donta Greene (2 punt returns for 63 yards, a kickoff return for 41 yards).
East Division
Offense: Brandon Carey, Marshall, RB (Sr., Bridge City, La.) turned in career highs with 28 attempts for 142 yards after starter Franklin Wallace left the game with a concussion in a 26-21 win over UCF. Marshall had averaged just 85 rushing yards its first two games of 2002. Carey's previous career best was 104 yards last year versus Youngstown State. His one-yard touchdown run gave Marshall the lead for good at 17-14 in the third quarter.
Offense: Luke Clemens, Miami, RB (Jr., Dayton, Ohio) started in place of the injured Cal Murray and responded with a career-high 171 rushing yards and two touchdowns in a 27-20 win over Kent State. Clemens scored on the RedHawks' first two possessions of the game for a 14-0 lead. Clemens played his freshman year at safety before moving to offense as a sophomore last year.
Defense: Asante Samuel, UCF, DB (Sr., Ft. Lauderdale, Fla.) made several big plays that gave the Golden Knights a chance to win the game before coming up short at Marshall 26-21. Samuel's inter-ception of a Byron Leftwich pass at the 2:10 mark returned the ball to UCF near midfield. He also had two pass breakups and five solo tackles, two of which were third down stops.
Special Teams: Curtis Head, Marshall, P/PK (Sr., Shelbyville, Ky.) his double-duty effort as both placekicker and punter helped Marshall beat UCF 26-21. Head connected on field goals from 41 and 22 yards as well as averaging 40.7 ypk on six punts. Two of his punts pinned UCF inside the 20 yard line. Three of his kickoff ef-forts resulted in touchbacks.

Offense - Akron QB Charlie Frye (27-47 passing for 336 yards 1 TD passing and 2 via the rush at Virginia); Buffalo WR Andre Forde (7 receptions for 74 yards at Minnesota and added 122 yards on 5 KOR); UCF TB Alex Haynes (131 yards, 26 attempts, a 58-yard touchdown run vs. Marshall); Kent State QB Joshua Cribbs (189 yards passing and 125 rushing at Miami, scored two rushing TDs); Ohio RB Chad Brinker (159 yards at UConn, scored both Bobcat touchdowns).
Defense - Kent State DB Shannon Davis (10 tackles, 1 intercep-tion at Miami); Marshall DE Jamus Martin (team-high 10 tack-les, forced and recovered a fumble vs. UCF); Miami LB Terrell Jones (8 tackles, 1 sack, a caused fumble versus Kent State); Ohio LB Dennis Chukuemeka (team-high 13 tackles at UConn).
Special Teams - Buffalo P Scott McMahan (44.3 ypk on 9 punts at Minnesota); UCF P Ryan Flinn (7 punts for a career high 46.9 ypk at Marshall); Kent State P Jared Fritz (42.3 ypk on 7 punts at Mi-ami); Miami KR Milt Bowen (3 KOR, 28.3 avg., 40 and 22 yard returns helped establish field position that led to scores); Ohio P/ PK Kevin Kerr (2 FG, 6 punts for 43.5 avg. at UConn).
