BGSU Women's Golf Team Finishes Fifth at Cardinal Classic

Yorktown, Ind. - The Bowling Green State University women's golf team finished fifth out of 15 teams at the Ball State Cardinal Classic on Sunday afternoon. The two-day, 36-hole tournament was held at The Players Club in Yorktown, Ind.
Bowling Green was just three shots out of first place on Saturday (307), but carded a 313 on Sunday for a final score of 620. Eastern Michigan won the tournament with a score of 610. BGSU's 36-hole score of 620 breaks a 22-year-old school record of 625 set in 1980 by the Falcons.
Junior Jenny Schnipke paced the way for the Falcons, finishing in a four-player tie for fifth place. Schnipke shot a 77 on Sunday. Her 73 on Saturday had her just just two shots out of first place after the first round.
The other Falcon Top-25 finishers included seniors Stephanie Elsea (155, T-20th) and Shelley Binzel (156, T-24th). Elsea was the only Falcon to improve her score from the first round on Saturday to the second round on Sunday (80-75).
Other Falcon finishers included junior Julie Wise (159, T-27th) and freshman Amanda Schroeder (168, T-46th).
BGSU returns to action next weekend with a trip to Ann Arbor, Mich., for the Wolverine Invitational (Sept. 14-15).
