BOWLING GREEN, Ohio - Kevin Bieksa is the Bowling Green State University Scholar-Athlete of the Week. Bieksa, a junior on the BGSU hockey team, helped the Falcons to a sweep of visiting Northern MIchigan last weekend. BG downed the nationally-ranked Wildcats by scores of 3-2 (Jan. 10) and 5-3 (Jan. 11).
Bieksa, a native of Grimsby, Ontario, set a new personal best in assists with his 11th helper of the season in Saturday's win. An assistant captain, he leads the Falcons in assists and is second on the team with 15 total points. Bieksa had 10 assists last year and nine as a freshman.
Bieksa also had a power-play goal in the Saturday victory, for his fifth multiple-point game of the season. The defenseman is tied for fourth on the team in goals this season, and is deadlocked for second on the Falcons with a pair of PPG.
Bieksa, a finance major, entered the 2002-03 academic year with a 3.46 cumulative grade point average.
The Falcons of head coach Scott Paluch play a pair of Central Collegiate Hockey Association road contests this Thursday and Friday (Jan. 16-17), taking on the #7-ranked Ohio State Buckeyes. Faceoff is scheduled for 7:05 p.m. each night at OSU's Value City Arena.
