BOWLING GREEN, Ohio - The Bowling Green State University women's tennis team, for the second time in as many matches, recorded a 7-0 home sweep. This time, the victory came over the University of Western Ontario in non-conference action Friday (Oct. 24) at Keefe Courts.
With the win, the Falcons end dual-match play at 2-0. BGSU is idle from competition until Jan. 24, 2003.
Every BGSU singles competitor won in straight sets, with no Falcon losing more than five total games on the afternoon. At the top flight, junior Susie Schoenberger lost only one total game in her win over the Mustangs' Ola Kowalkewski. Likewise, freshman Ashley Jakupcin won by the same 6-0, 6-1 score vs. Julia Creider at the second flight.
Sophomore Heidi Romer did them one better, downing UWO's Diana Hansen without losing a single game at the third flight.
Other winners in singles play were senior Jessica Johnson, junior Laura Kokinda and freshman Erica Wolfe. Juniors Cameron Benjamin and Lindsey Mix both were victorious in exhibition singles matches. Benjamin did not lose a game, while Kokinda lost only one and Mix two.
In doubles play, all three BGSU teams won by 8-2 scores. Jakupcin and Coello paired for a win at the top flight, while sophomores Romer and Andrea Meister won at the middle flight. The Kokinda/Mix team was triumphant at the third level.
