Bowling Green Continues Six-Game Homestand
Bowling Green returns to Central Collegiate Hockey Association action this weekend when it hosts instate rival Miami (OH), Oct. 31 and Nov. 1, at the BGSU Ice Arena. Both games are scheduled for 7:05 p.m. face-off.
BGSU vs. Miami
BGSU leads the all-time series with the RedHawks, 55-24-5, and at home are 31-7-3. However, MU has won the last four-straight against the Falcons by a combined score of 16-6. In the last 15 meetings dating back to Oct. 9, 1998, the RedHawks have visited the BGSU Ice Arena only five times with a record of 2-3-0.
Miami RedHawks
Miami is wrapping up its six-game road trip with two games this weekend in Bowling Green. The RedHawks are 2-1-1 during the road trip so far. SR forward Mike Kompon has registered 2-7--9 in nine career games vs. the Falcons. FR goalie Steve Hartley, son of Atlanta Thrashers coach Bob Hartley, registered his first career win last Saturday in a 2-1 win at Lake Superior.

Good News - BGSU is tied for third in the league in goals allowed (18); Bad News - BGSU is 10th in the league in goals scored (11). Good News - BGSU is second in the league in penalty kill pct. (.875); Bad News - BGSU is 11th in the league in power-play pct. (.083). Good News - BGSU is third in the league in shots per game (33.50); Bad News - BGSU is 11th in the league in goals per game (1.83). Good News - BGSU is outshooting opponents on average, 33.5 to 29.8; Bad News - Opponents lead the Falcons in goals per game, 3.0 to 1.8.
More Good News
BGSU continues to be a disciplined team under second-year coach Scott Paluch. So far this season, the Falcons are fourth in the league in penalty minutes per game at 13.67 and sixth in overall penalty minutes with 82 PIM. Last season BGSU averaged 7.6 penalties and 17.22 penalty minutes per game in 36 games played. Those numbers marked the lowest per game totals in 10 years for the Falcons.
Defense Proving Strong
Besides ranking second in the league by allowing just four PPGs in 32 chances (.875 penalty kill pct.), the Falcons are fourth in the league with a .904 save pct. BGSU is second in the league among teams that have played six or more games by allowing just 3.00 goals per game. Goalie Jordan Sigalet is third in the league with 161 saves and 26.83 saves per game.
Power-Play Struggles End
SR Mark Wires' PPG on Oct. 25 vs. Union snapped an 0-for-23 scoreless power-play streak for the Falcons dating back to Oct. 17 when Rich Meloche scored with the man advantage at Notre Dame. BGSU is 1-0-1 when scoring a PPG and 0-4-0 when they don't.
Falcons Facing Tough Opponents From the Start
For the fourth-straight week BGSU will be facing an opponent that has votes in one or both of the national polls. This week Miami enters Bowling Green having received votes in both the USA Today and USCHO.com national polls. BGSU has played NMU (votes in both polls), Notre Dame (votes in USA Today poll), and Union (votes in both polls).
