CLEVELAND, Ohio - Bowling Green State University football senior Josh Harris has been named the Mid-American Conference Male Scholar-Athlete of the Week, the league office announced Tuesday (Oct. 28). Harris earns the honor for the second time this season, and the fifth time in his career.
Harris, a native of Westerville, Ohio (North H.S.), set a school record and had the second-highest single-game output in MAC history, with 527 yards of total offense in BGSU's win Saturday (Oct. 25). The Falcons downed then-#12/14 Northern Illinois before a sellout crowd and national TV audience. Harris currently leads the MAC and ranks third in the nation with 334.38 yards of total offense per game.
In the NIU game, Harris set a career high and a Perry Stadium record with 438 yards passing. He had a 27-of-43 performance through the air with three touchdowns. Harris had 148 passing yards in the first three minutes of the game, leading the Falcons to a quick 14-0 lead.
Harris also had a game-high 89 rushing yards to move the Falcons' record to 7-1 overall and 4-0 in the MAC. BGSU is now ranked 17th and 20th in the national polls. Harris now has 41 career TD passes, moving into sole possession of third place on that BGSU list. He also went over 2,000 career rushing yards, and is nearing the 6,000-yard mark for career passing.
Harris, an interpersonal communication major, has a 3.08 cumulative GPA.
The MAC Scholar Athlete of the Week honor is presented to a MAC male and female student-athlete who has a cumulative grade point average of 3.0 or better and performs well during the previous week's competition. The winners are selected by one of the conference's faculty athletic representatives.
The Falcons will face the MAC's other unbeaten team, Miami (7-1, 4-0 MAC), in a nationally-televised matchup on Tuesday, Nov. 4. BGSU and MU will meet in an ESPN2 game, beginning at 7:30 p.m. at Yager Stadium. The Falcons' next home game is vs. Kent State on Nov. 15.
