Meister, Jakupcin Find Sunday Success At Wolverine Invitational

ANN ARBOR, Mich. - A pair of Bowling Green State University women's tennis players ended the Wolverine Invitational on successful notes Sunday (Oct. 5). Both freshman Ashley Jakupcin and sophomore Andrea Meister won the back draw at their respective flights in the three day invite, hosted by the University of Michigan.
Jakupcin downed Michigan State's Sarah Andrews to capture the back draw at the 'Maize' singles flight, posting a straight-sets win by narrow scores ot 7-6 (8-6) and 7-5. Also at that flight, sophomore Heidi Romer posted a Sunday win over Cincinnati's Julie Klauck in three sets.
At the 'Wolverine' flight, Meister dropped a total of only six games in a win over UC's Kirby Doran in the back-draw finals.
In doubles play, the team of Romer and senior Lisa Maloney advanced to the finals of the back draw, but lost an 8-4 decision to the Lindsay Goldstein/Debra Streifler team of host U-M.
A trio of Michigan freshmen won singles crowns in the tourney, held at the Varsity Tennis Center. Elizabeth Exon won the 'Blue' flight, Kara Delicata captured the 'Maize' flight and Goldstein won the 'Wolverine' flight. Delicata teamed with Kavitha Tipirneni to win the doubles title.
The Falcons return to action next weekend (Oct. 10-12), heading to East Lansing, Mich., for the Spartan Cup.
