KALAMAZOO, Mich. - Bowling Green State University women's soccer sophomore Samantha Meister has been named to the 2003 All-Mid-American Conference First Team. The award was announced at the MAC Tournament banquet Thursday night (Nov. 6) in Kalamazoo, Mich.
Meister, a native of Cincinnati, Ohio (Northwest HS), becomes the third Falcon women's soccer player in the seven-year history of the program to be named to the All-MAC First Team. Tracy Gleixner earned the honor in her freshman season of 1998, while Erika Flanders earned the honor as a senior last year.
Meister leads the Falcons in scoring, with 26 points on the season to date. She has 10 goals to lead the Brown and Orange in that department, and ranks second on the team with six assists.
Last year's MAC Freshman of the Year, Meister has scored a goal in each of the last three matches, and has a total of eight points in that time. Included in that stretch are her overtime goal at Marshall (Oct. 26), in a match the Falcons had to win to make the MAC Tournament. After scoring a goal and an assist in the final regular-season match (vs. Ohio State, Oct. 31), Meister had an assist before scoring the winner in Tuesday's (Nov. 4) MAC Tournament Quarterfinal, helping the eighth-seeded Falcons to a 2-1 win over #1 seed Eastern Michigan.
Meister has scored nine of her goals vs. MAC opposition this season. She had 17 points in the Falcons' 12 league regular-season contests, before her three-point match vs. EMU Tuesday.
Meister has scored 12 goals in her last 17 MAC regular-season contests. She has 43 career points, ranking fifth in school history, through just 36 career contests. She also ranks fifth in BG history with 16 career goals, and is sixth in school annals with 11 assists.
