Bowling Green Ends Four-Game Homestand
BGSU ends a four-game homestand when it hosts its I-75 neighbor to the south, the University of Findlay, this Friday, Dec. 12. Faceoff is scheduled for 7:05 p.m. The Falcons will have the next three weeks off before travelling to Minnesota-Duluth (Jan. 2-3) in a rematch of the 1984 Division I National Championship game won by BGSU, 5-4, in four overtimes.
BGSU vs. Findlay
The two teams have met just once before with BGSU winning 4-3 last year in Bowling Green. The Falcons had to score three unanswered goals over the final 10:31 to notch a 4-3 come-from-behind win over the Oilers. In that game Kevin Bieksa had a career-high three assists while Ryan Minnabarriet netted the GWG at 18:58 of the third period.
Findlay Oilers
Findlay is 4-10-2 overall and have not won since Nov. 21 when it defeated Canisius, 5-0. However, during that time the Oilers have had losses at nationally-ranked Denver and Colorado College, and opened the season with a 4-3 victory at Michigan State. The Oilers are led by Christian Olson with six goals and six assists while Kris Wiebe has a team-high seven assists. FR Will Hooper (2.61 gaa./.910 save pct.) and SO Jon Horrell (4.40 gaa./.871 save pct.) have split time between the posts for UF.
Working Overtime
Jordan Sigalet has minded the net in seven overtime games this season, allowing just one goal in 39:49 minutes of overtime. His save pct. in those seven overtime periods is .963 (26-of-27). In the seven overtime games that BGSU has played in this year, it has been outshot 26-10 but lost just once.
Sigalet Stops 85 Shots vs. Ferris State
Sigalet recorded 85 saves in two games vs. Ferris State last weekend, three off the school record for saves in a series set by Terry Miskolczi vs. Ohio State in 1973. He led a penalty-kill that shutout the Bulldogs on 13 attempts, including eight in Saturday's contest. He recorded 43 saves on Dec. 5 and 42 saves on Dec. 6, marking the 10th and 11th time in his career he has notched 40-plus saves in a game.
Black Ties, Bow Ties, Falcon Ties
The six ties this season for the Falcons ties a school record set in 2001-02. The seven overtime games this year is four off the school record of 11 set in 1991-92.
Bieksa Back in Scoring Column
SR Kevin Bieksa netted his first point in eight games and first goal in 13 games on Dec. 6 vs. FSU. Bieksa's slapshot gave him his third goal of the season after netting two goals in the first three games of the year. He still ranks among league leaders in defensemen scoring with 3-5--8 in 17 games.
Steady "Siggy" Lowering Stats
JR Jordan Sigalet is eighth in the CCHA and 30th in the nation with his 2.63 gaa. entering this weekend. He is seventh in the league and 25th in the nation with his .915 save pct. Sigalet is the only goalie in the nation with over 1,000 minutes played already this season (1047:42).
