CLEVELAND, Ohio - Bowling Green State University women's basketball freshman Liz Honegger has been named the Mid-American Conference Player of the Week, the league office announced Monday (Dec. 15). Honegger earns the honor for the first time in her Falcon career.
Honegger, a native of Lafayette, Ind., led the Falcons in scoring, rebounding and blocked shots in the team's lone game last week, a 70-63 setback to Oakland Saturday (Dec. 13). Honegger had 16 points, nine boards and three blocks vs. the Golden Grizzlies.
Honegger, who scored BGSU's first seven points of the game, had four of her nine rebounds at the offensive end. On the season, she now has 10.7 points, 6.4 rebounds and a team-leading 1.4 blocked shots.
Honegger ranks second on the Falcons in rebounding and third in scoring this season to date. She is shooting .537 from the field, including .391 (9-of-23) from three-point land. Honegger has started the last six contests after coming off the bench in her initial collegiate game.
The MAC honors one player from each of the two divisions each week. Kent State's Andrea Csaszar was this week's East Division Player of the Week.
The Falcons (4-3) of head coach Curt Miller are idle this week, before returning to action with a Monday (Dec. 22) contest at IUPUI. That game, BGSU's lone remaining action before the Christmas holiday, will begin at 7:00 p.m.
