CLEVELAND, Ohio - The Mid-American Conference today released its 2003 Academic All-MAC Volleyball Team, which was voted on by the league's faculty athletic representatives. Senior Susie Norris represented the Falcons on the squad.
The entire Academic All-MAC team includes three members from last year's team; Ball State's Stephanie Keller, Eastern Michigan's Jennifer Nighswander and Miami's Tara Buroker. Other members named to the team include Akron's Sandy Lewis, Ball State's Sarah Obras, Bowling Green's Susie Norris, Kent State's Danielle Holt, Ohio's Laura Hageman and Western Michigan's Carman Malone.
Six of the nine-member squad garnered all-conference recognition at the conclusion of the regular season. Hageman, Holt and Obras all were named to the all-MAC first team, with Hageman and Obras earning the honors for the second straight season. Hageman was also tabbed the league's Player of the Year for the second consecutive season and was also named the MAC Tournament MVP after guiding the Bobcats to their first-ever tournament title. In addition, Lewis also copped first-team all-MAC accolades, while Keller and Malone earned second team honors.
To qualify, a student-athlete must have at least a 3.20 cumulative GPA and have participated in at least 50% of the contests for that particular sport. First year students and junior college transfers in their first year of residence are not eligible for the award.
