BGSU Hosts #5-Ranked Ferris State in Final Two Home Games of the Season
BGSU will host CCHA-leading and #5-ranked Ferris State this weekend at the BGSU Ice Arena (March 7-8). Both faceoffs are scheduled for 7:05 p.m. It will mark the highest-ranked team to visit the BGSU Ice Arena since #1-ranked Michigan State came to Bowling Green, Dec. 1-2, 2000 (3-3 tie, 3-1 loss). Saturday, March 8, will also be "Senior Night" for two Falcons, forward Tyler Knight and goalie Tyler Masters.
BGSU vs. #5 Ferris State (25-8-1 overall, 20-5-1 CCHA)
The Falcons lead the all-time series vs. Ferris State (47-34-9), but have dropped four-straight to the Bulldogs. FSU enters the game tops in the Central Collegiate Hockey Association (41 points) and needing just one point vs. BGSU to clinch its first CCHA Championship in school history. The Bulldogs also bring a top candidate for the Hobey Baker Award, forward Chris Kunitz (28g, 35a, 63pts., 2nd in nation). BGSU owns a 30-14-4 record against FSU at home.
The Last Time vs. Ferris State...
FSU outscored the Falcons 15-2 in a two-game series in Big Rapids (Oct. 18-19), including a 10-1 win on Oct. 18. SR Chris Kunitz had eight points in the two games vs. BGSU (4g, 4a). FR Mike Falk and JR D'arcy McConvey scored the two netters for BGSU in the games.

Ohio Governor Bob Taft proclaimed on Feb. 27 that the week of March 1-8 would be "Hockey Week" throughout the state of Ohio. The proclamation was made in part to the OHSAA Championships being held in the state capital (Columbus), NHL-member Columbus Blue Jackets hosting four games, and all three of the Ohio universities with varsity hockey having home contests this week.
Scoring Drought Over for McConvey
JR forward D'Arcy McConvey scored BGSU's first goal on Saturday and assisted on the next two in a 3-2 overtime win at Lake Superior. McConvey's goal was his first in 2003, with his last netter coming on Dec. 27, 2002 vs. Boston College. His two assists gave him a team-high 21 for the season. McConvey leads BGSU with 27 points (6-21--27).
Knight Sets Career-Highs for Points
SR Tyler Knight set a new career-best for points in a season when he scored a short-handed goal and assisted on the game-winner in Saturday's 3-2 overtime win at Lake Superior. Knight now has 11 goals and 11 assists for a career-best 22 points. His previous season-best came his freshman year when he scored seven goals with 13 assists (20 points). The SHG was just the second of his career.
Masters Going Out In Style
SR Tyler Masters allowed just two goals in 58:10 minutes of action on Friday in a 2-0 loss at LSSU. The two goals allowed were the least given up for Masters since giving up two on Oct. 5 vs. Miami. In his last three games, Masters has a 2.64 gaa. and .911 save pct. (82 saves/90 shots) in 181:47 minutes of action.
Last-Second Heroics, Again, for Falk
FR Mike Falk scored his second game-winning, last-minute goal of the season on Saturday in a 3-2 OT win at LSSU. Falk scored with just nine seconds remaining in the overtime period for his first goal in five games. His other GWG came vs. Wayne State at JLA with just 13 seconds remaining in the third period.
Falcons Win Second Saturday Night Game
The 3-2 OT victory over LSSU was just the second Saturday night win for the Falcons this season (2-11-1). It also marked just the third overall road victory this year while snapping a seven-game winless streak (0-6-1).
Sigalet Undefeated in Overtime
SO Jordan Sigalet registered his second league road victory of the season while recording a game-high 33 saves in a 3-2 overtime win at Lake Superior. Sigalet made 30-plus saves for the 11th time in 18 games this season for his sixth win. It was his fourth overtime game this year, in which he is 2-0-2.
