BOWLING GREEN, Ohio - Crystal Wilson is the Bowling Green State University Scholar-Athlete of the Week. Wilson, a senior on the BGSU softball team, had grand slams in back-to-back home games in a pair of Falcon wins.
Wilson, a native of Toledo, Ohio, had hit one career homer in three-and-a-half seasons prior to her recent outburst. She went deep with the bases loaded in a win over Akron (April 19), and repeated her bases-loaded magic in the Falcons' Wednesday (April 23) win over arch-rival Toledo.
Against the Rockets, Wilson broke open a 2-0 game with her sixth-inning blast. She is believed to be only the second player in school history to hit two grand slams in a career, let alone in the same season.
Wilson, a special education major, has a 3.27 cumulative grade point average through the fall, 2002, semester.
The Falcons (22-24-1, 12-9 MAC) host Eastern Michigan University for a three-game weekend series to close the regular season. BGSU, looking to qualify for the MAC Tournament for the fifth time in six years, will host the Eagles for a 3:30 p.m. single game Friday (May 2) and a 1:00 p.m. doubleheader Saturday (May 3). All three games will be played at the BGSU Softball Field.
