Toledo Defeats Falcons, 4-3

Toledo, Ohio - plated three runs in the bottom of the seventh inning to pull ahead of Bowling Green and post a 4-3 victory over the Falcons on Friday afternoon at Scott Park.
UT jumped out to a 1-0 lead with a run in the bottom of the first inning off of BGSU starter Kyle Knoblauch. It took just two batters for the Rockets to gain the one-run advantage with back-to-back singles and a stolen base.
BGSU sent just one batter over the minimum to the plate in the first three innings before finally breaking into the scoring column in the top of the fourth inning. Jeff Warnock reached on a error by the UT second baseman and was singled over to second base via a single from Kelly Hunt to center field. After Nolan Reimold grounded into a fielder's choice, putting runners on the corners, Steve Raszka brought Warnock home with a sacrifice fly to center field. Reimold moved to second base on the fly out and then scored on a single by Jimmy Lipari to left field for a 2-1 BGSU lead.
The Falcons added to its lead with a run in the top of the seventh inning. David Barkholz hit a two-out single to left field and moved to second on an infield single by Jeff Warnock. Hunt then scored Barkholz with a single to left field for a 3-1 BGSU lead.
However, the Rockets plated three runs in the bottom of the seventh to go ahead 4-3 off of four hits BGSU failed to get a runner past first base in the final two innings.
Knoblauch dropped to 2-6 overall in six and two-third innings of work. He gave up 11 hits with two walks and three strikeouts. J.R. Duffey went the distance for UT, allowing eight hits with two walks and three strikeouts. Neil Schmitz pitched one and one-third innings of relief with no runs, no hits, no walks and one strikeout.
Barkholz (2-for-5) and Hunt (2-for-4) were the only Falcons with multiple hits.
BGSU will host Toledo in a doubleheader on Saturday, May 17, in the final home game of the year at Warren Steller Field. First pitch is scheduled for 1 p.m..
BGSU Notes....
* Kelly Hunt's RBI put him in sole possession of second place all-time in MAC history with 191 career RBIs. Matt Wood of Ball State is the all-time leader with 221 RBI.
* With Hunt going 2-for-4, the first baseman raised his batting average to a season-high .440 in 159 at-bats. There are only three Falcons who have ever hit over .440 in a season, with the last one coming in 1989 (Greg Lashuk, .441, 77 at-bats). The all-time highest batting average in a season at BGSU was in 1956 by Dick Kenny (.448 avg., 58 at-bats).
* Only four Falcons have ever hit over .400 with more than 150 at-bats. Hunt batted .402 last season in 214 at-bats.
* Hunt improved his career batting average to .399 in 597 at-bats (238 hits). That puts him in a tie for sixth place all-time in MAC history.
* Hunt is one home run away from becoming the all-time home run leader at BGSU. He is currently tied with Andy Tracy (1993-96) with 45.
